A Shih Tzu dog is proud, regal, stubborn, arrogant, and very intelligent. But even a dog with all of that going for it can still become the target of abuse and neglect. The problem is that a Shih Tzu never forgets and it can hold a grudge against humans for a long time and justifiably, but there is always a chance to show a Shih Tzu rescue dog that not all humans are bad and that the little dog does have a chance at being loved.

As able as they are to retain memories and hold a grudge the Shih Tzu rescue dog also wants a chance at a happy life just like any other living creature. It wants to be loved and, when it feels it is safe and comfortable, it wants to love back as well. Just like in any other situations sometimes the physical scars of abuse never heals and the mental anguish may be difficult to overcome as well but it is always worth a try to give a Shih Tzu a second chance.

When you start out your new life with your Shih Tzu rescue dog you are going to need good advice from experienced and professional people on how to communicate and care for your recovering pet. Your vet is an invaluable resource when it comes to that kind of information and they would be more than happy to educate you on the things you need to do for your Shih Tzu rescue dog.

A breeder not only sees pups all day long but they are also caring for Shih Tzu dogs that are abandoned by their previous owners as well. A Shih Tzu breeder has a great deal of experience in caring for a Shih Tzu rescue dog that you can benefit from, so do not hesitate to call a local Shih Tzu breeder for advice on your Shih Tzu rescue dog. As much as a breeder knows about raising new pups they also know about getting through to Shih Tzu rescue dogs as well.

You are going to need a tremendous amount of patience with your Shih Tzu rescue dog if you ever hope to get through to them and help them adapt to a life where they are loved. A Shih Tzu by nature takes a long time to train and a long time to adapt to what you want it to do. And the trauma of its previous existence is another hurdle you will have to jump in your quest to get your Shih Tzu rescue dog to be a loving pet.

You are doing a wonderful thing by taking in a Shih Tzu rescue dog and when you finally break through to that dog it will reward with love and affection for the rest of its life. In the meantime it will take time for your dog to adjust and it will make mistakes while it is adjusting. Never punish a Shih Tzu rescue dog, as you may never be able to get through to it ever again if one of the things you do for its second chance is punish it.
